BEER BATTERED FISH WITH CHIPS & TARTARE SAUCE

COOKBOOK: Mag Recipe

There is nothing better than home made fish & chips and for me its definitely the healthier option. I use olive oil and not vegetable oil, which unfortunately is a costly way to fry.

Easy recipe, maybe I should have deep fried the chips but I was just too tired, having said that, they were also delicious! And the tartare sauce was out of this world!

Enjoy

RECIPE

SERVES 4

1 1/2 cup of self raising flour

1 egg

1 1/2 cup of beer (375ml)

5 large potatoes, peeled

oil for frying

12 medium pieces of flathead fillets or 6 pieces of hoki (cut in strips like in the video)

TARTARE SAUCE

1 cup mayonnaise

2 teaspoons of grated lemon rind

1 tablespoon lemon juice

2 tablespoons of chopped gherkins

2 tablespoons chopped dill

1 tablespoon chopped chives

1 red chilli, seeded, chopped finely

Whisk the flour, egg and beer together in a medium bowl until smooth, cover and refrigerate batter for an hour.

Cut the potato in strips. Fry chips in batches until cooked through and golden. Keep warm.

Heat oil for deep frying. Dip the fish in batter and deep fry until its golden crisp. (approx 1-2mins only)

Serve fish with chips and tartare sauce

TARTARE SAUCE: Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix well. I added all ingredients except the mayo in a blended to chop finely. Delicious.
